Sameer Gokhale is a partner in the firm's Electrical Patent Prosecution group. He prosecutes patents for a diverse clientele from all over the world in electrical and mechanical fields, including printing and copying technology, semiconductors and semiconductor manufacturing, display systems, digital rights management, audio and video encoding, network security, and personal electronic devices. Additionally, as a wireless industry patent attorney, he has prosecuted patents for wireless communications technologies.
Mr. Gokhale is a knowledge leader at Oblon in the legal topics of functional claiming and statutory subject matter. He has given several presentations on how recent changes in U.S. patent law impact patent prosecution and patent enforceability related to computer-based technologies, with an emphasis on emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud Computing, Big Data, Blockchain, and all aspects of Industry 4.0.
In addition, Mr. Gokhale has provided complete support for several inter partes review (IPR) proceedings, for both petitioners and patent owners, including authoring petitions, conducting and defending depositions of experts, and conducting oral hearings before the USPTO’s Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).
Prior to joining Oblon, Mr. Gokhale served as a Patent Examiner in display systems art at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). During that time, he reviewed patent applications related to liquid crystal display (LCD) drivers, plasma display drivers, and display input devices. He now draws upon this experience to expedite the patent prosecution process for his clients.
Before attending law school, Mr. Gokhale was an engineering consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton in the fields of satellite communications and network integration. His work included evaluating systems and standards for providing network communications and Internet access to deployed military personnel.
