Frank J. West is a partner and Head of the Litigation Department, and also serves on the Life Sciences and IP Transactions practice groups. Mr. West also serves as the firm’s General Counsel and is a member of the Management Committee. His practice includes district court litigation, e.g., abbreviated new drug application (ANDA) cases, Federal Circuit appeals and 337 actions before the International Trade Commission (ITC).
Mr. West is also a Certified Licensing Professional. As a former small business consultant, Mr. West has a Master’s in Business Administration and completed coursework for an LLM in Securities Law. Mr. West has practical business experience as an interim president of a start-up software development corporation. These experiences allow Mr. West to see legal issues from a client’s business perspective and to anticipate and advise clients regarding risks related to litigation and strategies to avoid or reduce those risks both in and outside of litigation.
With respect to transactional work, Mr. West is an experienced, detail-oriented adviser who carefully and thoughtfully advises clients regarding corporate transactional matters to achieve each client’s specific business objectives. While the focus of his practice is on intellectual property transactional work, i.e., due diligence, licensing negotiations/drafting and R&D collaborations, Mr. West also has many years of experience advising clients on non-intellectual property contractual matters as well.
