On July 30, 2002, U.S. Federal District Court Judge Susan J. Dlott granted three summary judgment motions filed by the Oblon, Spivak Law Firm on behalf of its client, French steel maker Usinor S.A., that completely defeats all of the infringement contentions of AK Steel Corporation of Middletown, Ohio, in two separate patent infringement lawsuits brought by AK Steel and its predecessor, Armco, Inc.
On Thursday, December 21, 2001, a jury in the Eastern District of New York sitting in Brooklyn found in favor of Toshiba Corporation in a patent infringement suit brought against Toshiba by Loral Fairchild Corporation. The jury found that Toshiba had not infringed Loral's patent 3,931,674 and that the claim of the patent which was asserted against Toshiba was invalid for obviousness. Toshiba was represented by Arthur Neustadt, Richard Kelly and Carl Schlier of Oblon, Spivak, McClelland, Maier & Neustadt, P.C. of Arlington, Virginia.
The intellectual property law firm Oblon, Spivak, McClelland, Maier & Neustadt, P.C. ceremonially broke ground today for their new headquarters in Alexandria, Va. Prior to a luncheon celebration, representatives from both the firm and developer Monument Realty made remarks, and then donned hardhats to shovel dirt before an audience of more than 100.

The Honorable Gerald J. Mossinghoff, Senior Counsel to the firm, has been designated to receive the "Jefferson Medal". The Jefferson Medal is the highest national award that any practitioner in the field of intellectual property can receive. It is awarded each year by the New Jersey Intellectual Property Law Association to a person "who has made exceptional contributions to the field of patents, trademarks, or copyrights." This is a very prestigious award that recognizes a lifetime of professional and personal service in fostering the protection of intellectual property.
Oblon, Spivak, on behalf of AFG INDUSTRIES, INC. and ASAHI GLASS COMPANY, LTD., has obtained a favorable decision from the Federal Circuit. The decision includes a discussion of the proper use of extrinsic evidence in claim construction.
Case Synopsis On September 22, 2000, the Federal Circuit upheld an order granting three separate summary judgment motions filed in March-April 1998 by the Oblon, Spivak firm in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. The ruling affirmed Oblon, Spivak's position that its client did not infringe under the doctrine of equivalents any claims of three patents in the original lawsuit brought 33 months earlier.
