Chemical Associate
Oblon, McClelland, Maier & Neustadt LLP (“Oblon”) seeks an Associate with 3-7 years of patent prosecution experience in a law firm setting to join its Chemical Patent Prosecution Practice Group on-site in its Alexandria, Virginia office (hybrid role; in-office presence 3 days per week). A technical background is required in the areas of inorganic chemistry; organic chemistry; or chemical engineering. Industrial experience is a plus. A Master’s or Doctorate in the relevant field is preferred. Candidates must possess superior technical knowledge, writing and communication skills. Responsibilities include analysis and preparation of replies to office actions; invention and disclosure meetings/calls with clients; preparation and prosecution of new patent applications; counseling clients on patent related matters and portfolio analysis; agreements and related transactions; and appeals; and assistance with review and training of junior chemical patent practice professionals.
Qualified candidates must possess a J.D. from an ABA accredited law school and be licensed to practice in a state bar and before the USPTO. Experienced USPTO examiners and APJ candidates welcome to apply.

The salary range for this position is $180,000 - $240,000. The salary offered will depend upon qualifications and experience.
